Installing SCVMM 2012 R2

As I told you in a previous post, where I explained SCVMM 2012 R2, the first of all would be to create the user account which you will need for running the services and install a SQL Server. Also remember that you need a domain in your environment. I mean, all these previous considerations are what we call "preparing your environment". Let's do it so...

 

Preparing The Environment

Hardware

In my case, I will install all SCVMM 2012 R2 roles and SQL in one server with 8GB RAM and a hard disk with 60GB. It's a virtual machine hosted in the server which later will be my host in SCVMM.

 

By the way, an important nuance as far as the memory is concerned, "If you install the VMM management server on a virtual machine and you use the Dynamic Memory feature of Hyper-V, then you must set the startup RAM for the virtual machine to be at least 2,048 megabytes (MB)"

 

Operating System

Windows Server 2012 R2

In the OS we have to install a couple of prerequisites before starting SCVMM 2012 R2 installation:

• Windows ADK for Windows 8.1 just with below options will be good enough (You can download from here)

• Command Line Utilities for SQL (You can download form here)

Finally, also remember to join the server to the domain. In my case CASURO.COM

SQL Server

I won't explain the installation as is very easy, you know this is the marvelous Microsoft world, where you only need that of "Next-Next-Finish and everything is working". Just kidding, nevertheless these were my installation options:

• Database Engine Services (All)
• Management Tools 

I also used a domain account for running services (It's up to you to do the same or run as a local)

 

 

 

User Accounts 

CASURO\scvmmsvc

CASURO\scvmmadmin

 

Well, so far these were the consideration to prepare our environment. Let's start the installation. Shall we?

 

Installation

Download the setup files from Microsoft Evaluation Center. You have to extract the files just for SCVMM.

 

 

Run the setup file as administrator.

 

 

 Click Install.

 

 

Select features to install and click Next.

 

 

Type your information and click Next.

 

 

 

Accept the agreement and click Next.

 

 

Participate in the Customer Experience Improvement Program It's up to you. Click Next.

 

 

Again, this also It's up to you. Click Next.

 

 

Choose the Installation Location.

 

 

Type the Database Configuration. In my case is the same server and I will use the default instance. Click Next.

 

 

Configure service account. As far as Distributed Key Management is concerned, I explained in a previous post what this stand for.

 

 

Port Configuration, here just be aware of your firewall rules and click Next.

 

 

 

In Library Configuration, for our lab will be good enough leave values by default. Click Next.

 

 

Check Installation summary and click Install.

 

 

Processing installation.
